Hirosaki Castle consists of approximately 50 buildings, including the three-story wooden castle tower, Otemon Gate, Ninomaru Goten, Sanomaru Goten, and Honmaru Goten. In particular, the castle tower is considered one of the oldest in Japan and is a beautiful wooden structure that is hard to believe it was built in the Edo period.

Hirosaki Castle is renowned for being one of the most picturesque castles in Japan. What it lacks in scale and grandeur, it makes up for in authenticity (it's a real Edo era castle—not a reproduction) and its beautiful setting at the center of a tree-filled park with stark seasonal changes.

Hirosaki developed around Hirosaki Castle. Thousands of cherry trees are planted around the castle grounds, turning them into one of Japan's most spectacular cherry blossom spots typically from late April to early May. The city is also famous for the Tsugaru-jamisen, a local version of the shamisen.
